We have reserved essentially the entire hotel, consisting of
~63
rooms and ~47 suites, which cost $79/night and $99/night,
respectively. They are also holding 25 rooms for the two days
following our meeting for those who plan to attend the scimon training
session. The hotel rooms are quite nice for what they charge
as compared with many other local hotels. Perhaps people who
double up on rooms might want the "double suites." The hotel
and
conference center are next to each other, and within walking distance
of restaurants and other businesses, so it is entirely possible to take
a taxi from the airport and avoid paying for a rental car.
Update:
The deadline for these held rooms (July 24), as well as the extension to the deadline (July 31) have come and gone, so it is hit-or-miss for rooms at Lod Cook. Feel free to give it a try (though price and availability are uncertain), or check out the lists below for other hotel options. To try Lod Cook, please call 1-225-388-1007 or 1-866-610-COOK.
In all likelihood, you will be greeted by an answering
machine.
It will invite you to use their web site to make a reservation; please
ignore this, as you cannot get the good rates we've arranged
online. Then you may be tempted to just call back to get a
human,
which may be quite time-consuming. Instead, it may be best to
just leave them a message with your phone number; they will call you
back.
It is about a 15 minute walk from the Physics building to the
site
of the hotel and conference center. So most people can avoid
renting cars even if you are attending a face-to-face meeting.
Parking over the weekend on campus is available for
face-to-face
folks. Parking at the conference center/hotel is free and
plentiful during the entire conference.
If you cannot
get through to make
your booking, please call or send an email to our group secretary,
Karen Richard at 1-225-578-1194 or karen@phys.lsu.edu.
If you're really stuck, please get in touch with Joe Giaime or Gabriela
Gonzalez. Thanks again for your patience.
